Salary report · Updated August 1, 2026

New roles, sourced numbers.

Six creative roles the AI era is hiring for: what the work is, what it pays, and the skills in the postings. Every range from a named source. U.S. figures, August 2026.

AI Filmmaker / AI Video Producer

$75,000 to $162,000Source: ZipRecruiter

Directs and produces finished video with generative models in the loop: scripting, storyboarding, shot generation, edit, and delivery. Owns the full concept-to-screen pipeline, blending AI video tools with traditional post-production craft.

Skills in the postings

  • Runway, Pika, Luma Dream Machine, Sora
  • Midjourney, ComfyUI, ControlNet, AnimateDiff
  • DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, After Effects
  • ElevenLabs, Suno, Descript for voice and sound
  • Scripting, storyboarding, directing
  • Unreal Engine or Blender for virtual production
  • Script-to-video pipeline design

Remote AI filmmaking postings on ZipRecruiter average $127,031, well above the $83,601 national average for the title (ZipRecruiter, July 2026).

Creative Technologist

$77,818 to $141,593Source: Glassdoor

Bridges creative and engineering teams, turning concepts into working prototypes, interactive experiences, and AI-assisted campaign content. Studios now expect fluency in generative tools alongside creative coding and art direction.

Skills in the postings

  • Midjourney, Runway, Kling, Flux, ComfyUI
  • Art direction and storytelling across visual and motion formats
  • Creative coding: TouchDesigner, Processing, Unity
  • Multi-platform campaign and digital content
  • Rapid, iterative prototyping
  • Client and stakeholder presentation

Lightcast reports AI skills command a 28% salary premium, with demand shifting beyond the tech industry (Lightcast, July 2025).

Generative Artist / Generative Media Designer

$95,000 to $146,000Source: ZipRecruiter

Designs and runs image and asset pipelines with generative models, producing consistent, on-brand visuals at scale. The job is part visual designer, part workflow engineer: prompt systems, batch generation, and quality control.

Skills in the postings

  • Midjourney, ComfyUI, Stable Diffusion
  • ControlNet and IP-Adapter workflows
  • Prompt engineering
  • Adobe Firefly
  • Batch asset-generation pipelines
  • Visual design portfolio with scalable systems work

Lightcast measured roughly 800% growth in generative AI roles across non-tech industries since 2022 (Lightcast, July 2025).

Pipeline Technical Director (AI / Generative)

$81,717 to $150,857Source: Glassdoor

Builds and maintains the production pipeline that keeps characters, environments, and motion consistent across shots, now increasingly with diffusion-model workflows instead of, or alongside, traditional VFX tools. New postings ask for ComfyUI pipeline design as a core duty.

Skills in the postings

  • ComfyUI node-based diffusion workflows
  • ControlNet pipelines: pose, depth, reference
  • LoRA-based character-consistency systems
  • IP-Adapter reference pipelines
  • Video-driven motion and pose extraction
  • Python and custom node development
  • VFX or technical-art background

No salary series exists yet for AI-specific pipeline TDs; the range shown is Glassdoor's for the established VFX pipeline TD title, while AI-native postings such as After Ever Pictures' ComfyUI Pipeline Director (LinkedIn, 2026) are appearing, often on contract or participation terms rather than salary.

AI Sound Designer / Audio Engineer

$50,000 to $113,000Source: ZipRecruiter

Owns the sonic identity of AI-assisted productions: soundscapes, dialogue cleanup, music generation, and final mix. Studios hiring for these roles want traditional mixing craft plus fluency with AI audio tools used with judgment, not as a crutch.

Skills in the postings

  • AI audio tools for sound design, dialogue cleanup, and music generation (ElevenLabs, Suno)
  • Full mix and master delivery
  • DAW proficiency
  • Cinematic, story-driven sound design
  • Sonic identity development across a production

ZipRecruiter's AI audio postings average $84,456 a year, versus a $56,600 median for traditional broadcast and sound technicians (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2024 data).

Narrative Designer

$58,000 to $109,000Source: ZipRecruiter

Designs story systems for games and interactive media: branching narrative, character arcs, and dialogue that respond to the player. A growing share of postings now list generative AI familiarity and in-house LLM storytelling systems among the requirements.

Skills in the postings

  • Interactive storytelling and branching narrative
  • Game engines: Unity, Unreal
  • Narrative tools: Twine, Articy Draft
  • LLM-driven storytelling systems
  • Generative AI familiarity
  • Creative writing

Lightcast finds writers stand out among non-technical occupations where generative AI now appears in job postings (Lightcast, Emerging Skills in AI Jobs).

Methodology

Each range is the national U.S. salary band the named source publishes for that title; the note under each role carries the caveats, including the one title with no AI-specific series yet. Skills lists are compiled from live job postings. The society trains for this work: the Multimodal Credential is an eight-week assessed certification graded against an open benchmark no vendor funds.
